GNAO Membership
Who Can Join?
The Gerontological Nursing Association Ontario (GNAO) welcomes all classes of RNs, RPNs, retired nurses, student nurses, as well as allied health care workers (both professional and non-regulated).
The membership year is November 1st to October 31st.

Access to Perspectives, the online peer-reviewed quarterly journal of the Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association (CGNA).
Access to the GNAO Newsletter, providing relevant and important news and information, interesting articles and event announcements click here to view.
Network with other professionals who share similar interest and enthusiasm for this unique area of practice. Attend local chapter educational opportunities, our annual GNAO provincial conference and biennial CGNA national conference.
Add your voice of support for professional advocacy and influence decisions relevant to care of the older person.
Earn continuous learning (CL) activity hours to help maintain and renew your Gerontological Nursing Certification (Canada), GNC(C), by participating in GNAO educational events. (For CNA Certification resources and tools click here).
Fulfill the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Professional Standard requirement for “continuous competence” by continually improving your knowledge and skill relevant to your professional practice.
Local Chapters:
There are eleven chapters throughout Ontario. Each chapter holds regular meetings for members as well as educational events and activities to enhance your professional practice. In addition, the annual conference is hosted by chapters on a rotational basis.

Need to Change Chapter?
Your chapter affiliation is determined by established boundaries. Please refer to the chapter map located on the membership page for details of the regions within each chapter.
Please contact us if you would like to request a change in your chapter affiliation. Be sure to include your:
- Name
- College of Nurses Number (if applicable),
- Current chapter
- Requested Chapter
- Email address
We will notify you when your transfer is complete. We will also inform your previous and new chapter Membership Chairs.
Membership Categories:
Regular Member/Retired Member: Registered with the CNO. A practicing or non-practicing Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse (full voting privileges and may hold any chapter office*)
Associate Member: Not registered with the CNO. This includes 1) Non-practising RNs or RPNs who no longer hold CNO registration 2) HCAs, PSWs, and Allied Health Professionals or anyone interested in joining our association who is not registered with the CNO (may hold any chapter office other than President, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer*)
Student Associate: Any undergraduate student enrolled at an accredited institution in the Province of Ontario. Undergraduate nursing students studying toward an RN or RPN designation with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) receive a free GNAO membership.
* All members must comply with the regulations of the Association.
Membership Fees:
Regular: $65.00
Associate: $30.00
Retired: $30.00
Student Associate: $30.00 / Free for all undergraduate nursing students. Membership information must still be completed in full and submitted either directly to the GNAO or through RNAO/RPNAO.
Members of RNAO and RPNAO can add GNAO as an Interest Group when joining either of these nursing associations. We will contact you directly to confirm membership in GNAO.
