Gerontological Nursing Association Ontario (GNAO) Privacy Notice

This privacy notice discloses the privacy practices for www.gnaontario.org. This privacy notice applies solely to information collected by this web site. Through posting visible links to this privacy notice on various pages of the website, GNAO has made a reasonable effort to ensure that you are advised of the purposes and terms under which your personal information will be used. Please read this privacy notice so that you will understand how your personal information will be treated as you make use of the GNAO website. Collection of Personal Information
The collection of personal information will be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified by GNAO. All personal information collected by GNAO relates directly to administrative/membership purposes or to communicate with members about GNAO activities. When requesting information or submitting an online membership application the user is required to give certain information, such as name, contact information, email address etc. At your option, you may also provide other information (e.g. employer) about yourself, but it is not required. GNAO shall take all reasonable steps to document the purposes for which personal information is collected on its website. Unless you ask us not to, we may contact you via email in the future to tell you GNAO events and announcements.

Why GNAO Collects Personal Information
GNAO collects and/or compiles personal information for administrative/membership and communication purposes, including:
• creating internal reports and administrative records (e.g. for GNAO and CGNA membership)
• providing members with information on GNAO educational events and special announcements
• communicating with you through the GNAO online Newsletter and CGNA online journal “Perspectives”
• giving you the opportunity to utilize online resources
• responding with information as requested when contacted by a member
• using the information for a specific purpose for which the information was obtained or compiled

Retention of Personal Information
GNAO will retain personal information for such period of time as the member remains in good standing so that the member has reasonable opportunity to obtain access to the use of their information.

Accuracy of Personal Information
GNAO will take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is as accurate, up-to-date and complete as possible.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
Personal information under the control of GNAO will not be used or disclosed by GNAO to a third party except for the purpose for which it was obtained or compiled, or for a use consistent with that purpose (e.g. conference planners, RNAO, RPNAO, and CGNA). When disclosing personal information to a third party, GNAO shall require, through contractual or other reasonable means, that the third party follows a standard or policy comparable to GNAO’s privacy notice.

Responsibility
All GNAO board and executive members and administrative employees who collect maintain and/or use personal information (e.g. membership lists) are responsible for insuring that the collection, use and disclosure of this information are carried out in accordance GNAO Confidentiality Policy.

Internet Security
Although GNAO will make every reasonable effort to protect personal information from loss, misuse or alteration by third parties, Internet users should be aware that there is always some risk involved in transmitting personal information over the Internet.

Privacy on the Internet
GNAO reserves the right to perform statistical analyses of user behaviour and characteristics in order to measure interest in and use of the various sections of its site so as to improve design and navigation. Only aggregated data from these analyses (not individual data) will be used for this purpose. The GNAO also reserves the right to disclose any information, including your personal information, as necessary to satisfy any law, regulation or other governmental request, to operate the Webpage or any of the Services properly, or to protect themselves or other users.

In order to use the login section of the GNAO website, a user must first sign up and create a user name and password.
